Starlink is a hit in Zimbabwe

Starlink the satellite based internet provider, a subsidiary of SpaceX is a hit in Zimbabwe. It is such a hit, that even I myself am using Starlink, whilst at my desk in Madziwa, Zimbabwe. It turns out that Elon Musk, they guy behind Starlink knows what the third world wanted and he delivered.

The installation is pretty simple, and even non-technicians can do it. You are guided by an app (the Starlink app) on how to position the receiver, and next thing you know you are on the Internet. I personally like the pricing the most, it is cheap about 35 USD per month, but on their site they are now advertising 40 USD.

They are two main packages, one for the home and the other for enterprise. The package you buy will affect the pricing, and the dealer who you have to purchase through. In terms of pricing I mean the cost of the unit plus the monthly subscription fee.

The adoption has been very fast, with even schools and government institutions making use of the technology. They are attracted by the low cost, low maintenance and setup of the device, plus easy accessibility in positioning and using it.

So the news in in, tell everyone. Starlink is the it guy right now in Zimbabwean telecommunications. It is sad for Telone, Utandi and other VSAT based Internet service providers because they just can not compete. I will however save that debate for another post.
